Sandy TaylorReclaiming the Power of Women for a Peaceful World.

I wrote the forthcoming book MotherBirth: Reclaiming the Power of Women for a Peaceful World with the intention of sharing the impact that parenting has on the individual beginning with conception. With photo documentation of my personal journey, I offer the reader a visual experience of the long-term effects of early traumas and the possibility of healing.

My story of physical, emotional, and spiritual birth demonstrates how thoughts, feelings and actions, which reject the fetus and newborn, can lead to a life of automatic and harmful, even violent, responses towards self or others. On the other hand, the book helps to make intelligible, in a feeling way, the processes of bonding, nurturance, communications and emotions that occur between the child and mother, and their lasting effect on the quality of emotional well-being throughout a lifetime.

The idea for Motherbirth was conceived 30 years ago while I was on a photo assignment at the Center for the Whole Person, in Mays Landing, New Jersey. Under the mentorship of Dr. Bill Swartley, the Center’s Director, I studied about birth trauma, participated in therapy sessions and photographed clients in therapy. The powerful, life-altering experiences I had there became the impetus for writing this book.

Discussion of the Paradigm presented in MotherBirth includes:

  • Mysteries of the Womb Unveiled
  • Stages of Birth
  • Un-natural Childbirth and Medical Intervention
  • Trauma Associated with the Umbilical Cord
  • Bonding vs. Attachment
  • Empowerment and Separation
  • Circumcision
  • Spiritual Development
  • Orgasmic Childbirth
  • Infertility to Fertility without Medical Intervention
  • Personality Disorders Associated with Trauma in the Womb and at Birth
  • Roots of Violence

The projected audience for Motherbirth book and powerpoint presentations includes:

  • Anyone preparing to start or expand a family
  • Infertile couples who want children
  • Anyone wanting to release past trauma and transform the quality of their life
  • Therapists, psychologists, chiropractors, midwives and doctors in helping their clients and patients prepare for birth or work through blockages relating to birth and early life
  • Peace workers wanting to understand and take action on the roots of violence
